The 'boys to red pill pipeline' has been an ongoing discourse with parents and advocates trying to understand how to best counter it. Netflix's newest mini-series, Adolescence, draws incel culture into the spotlight, analyzing how it manifests through a boy who murdered a girl in a parking lot. It begs the question, can red-pill beliefs be "de-pilled," and if so, where does one start?
What is Red Pill Content & Beliefs?
"Red-pill" philosophy in the manosphere is the idea that modern society lies to men about relationships, what it means to be a man, and how women are. A lot of the red-pill content at the core is misogyny, sexism, and an overall hatred of women. It believes in the oppression of women and girls and devalues their individuality and humanity, which can result in violence against them.
Political commentary, relationship advice, and self-improvement are all part of the "red pill" genre. Hence the rise in "alpha male" talking points and boot camps. It sells the idea of manliness looks and sounds one way, allowing abusers like Andrew Tate to be beacons to youth and grown men. What they perceive as liberating and "awakening," only advocates for dangerous and retrograde ideologies, creating an even more inhumane society for women and girls.
Can You 'De-Pill' Young Boys?
At the core of ingesting red pill content is its belief system. The question is, can a person change their beliefs? Starting with encouraging critical thinking can force them to take a second look at the logic that is missing from red pill content. It isn't enough to remove it, especially when their environment and peers may continue to regurgitate it. Yes, monitor what they watch and take in. Talk to them to understand how they feel and think. Ultimately, they need to learn how to counter it themselves.
Remember, it is also important for young boys to learn to see girls and women as humans deserving of respect in platonic spaces first and beyond. Exposing them to positive images of other men who don't subscribe to the anti-women and incel culture is also encouraged as well.
