Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex

Meghan Markle needs no introduction at this point in her life. If a person hasn't paid any real attention to her, they may know several things about her if they live in reality. For starters, she is married to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. Secondly, she portrayed Rachel Zane for seven seasons in the legal drama, Suits. With the resurgence of Suits via streaming, more and more people have become familiar with Markle outside of being the woman the Duke of Sussex gave his heart.

What has also been obvious, unless a person has lived under a rock, is the continuous harmful clicks and posts associated with her name. No matter what she does, there is always a cycle of stories and angry social media posts to misjudge it intentionally. Some may very well be bots, while others are just seething individuals who hate how she breathes. It could be an outfit choice; expect a cannon of negative posts degrading everything about her.

The reason for this is no secret. It never was. It is crystal clear that much of the noise is financially motivated and pure racism in cowardly form. The comparisons to her sister-in-law, which positions her as the near-perfect opposite of everything Meghan Markle, is just one example. Google any negative headline about Markle and guarantee there is an exact opposite of her sister-in-law.

Then there was the infamous questioning of the potential skin tone of Markle and Prince Harry's first unborn child, alluding to her blackness being too much of an unwanted factor. If that didn't spell out r-a-c-i-s-t in big, bold Christmas lights, I don't know what does.

Unshockingly, the British media has never played fair in covering the Duchess of Sussex. But of course, it wouldn't, giving an army of self-loathing white women something to ingest with ease. Who cares about facts when you hate someone you don't know personally? Who cares about treating someone humanely when their very existence illuminates the bigot and envy that isn't hidden in casual, unsolicited takes?

Meghan Markles' refusal to stop doing what she wants has been confirmed for a while now. Her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, is set to premiere on March 4th. Followers of her pre "Royal Family" business, "The Tig," are waiting with glee to continue following what they came to know and love about her. With her philanthropy, businesses, popular television series, and being loved loudly, one thing is certain about the Duchess of Sussex: she continues to shine. There aren't enough triggered social media posts that can dim her light.
