Renowned R&B and soul vocalist Angie Stone has unfortunately died at the age of 63 in a fatal vehicle accident.
Early Saturday morning, Stone was killed in a vehicle accident in Montgomery, Alabama. According to the singer's representative, the diva and her band/background vocalists were returning from a performance when their Sprinter crashed. The accident claimed the life of Stone alone.
This Grammy-nominated artist had a streak of successful singles, including "Brotha," "No More Rain (In the Clouds)," and her 2001 single "Wish I Didn't Miss You," a soulful rendition of "Backstabbers" by the O'Jays. During her career, she came close to winning three Grammys, including Best R&B Vocal Performance in 2004 and Best R&B Vocal Performance in 2003, for her ten solo albums.
Over the course of her decades-long career, she was a member of several groups, the first of which being The Sequence, an all-female group that had the breakthrough single "Monster Jam" that helped establish early Southern rap. After her 1999 solo album Black Diamond, which had the song "No More Rain (In This Cloud)," Stone continued to make seminal albums like Mahogany Sun and became even more successful later in her career.
Angie Stone's acting chops were on display in several Broadway productions, including Chicago, The Fighting Temptations, and The Hot Chick. Her legacy in R&B, soul, and hip-hop will live on. Her son Michael, daughter Diamond, and two grandkids are the ones who will carry on her legacy.
