Beyonce finally won Album of the Year at this year's Grammy Awards for her groundbreaking country album Cowboy Carter.

The most honored and nominated artist in Grammy history has been up for the category four times before. Previous critically acclaimed projects, Lemonade, the self-titled visual album Beyonce, and Renaissance, were all nominated for Album of the Year and lost. Many believe she has been passed over for top awards for quite some time now.

With Cowboy Carter, Beyonce has become the first Black woman to take home the top accolade in the twenty-first century. Lauryn Hill with "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" 26 years ago was the last. Natalie Cole was the first Black woman to take home the award, and Whitney Houston was the second. That makes a whopping four Black women to ever win an Album of the Year Grammy.

Beyonce received the prize from Los Angeles Fire Department members, one of multiple occasions the event mirrored the recent wildfires burning hundreds of homes.

"It's been many, many years," Beyonce remarked in her remarks. Referring to Linda Martell, the artist who became the first Black woman to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, she added, "I want to dedicate this to Ms. Martell."
